Cosmos 482 Landing Module Re-entry Cosmos 482 is an interplanetary probe intended to land on Venus in 1972, but due to an upper stage booster failure, was left stuck in Earth orbit. The orbit has been decaying since then, and the probe is expected to re-enter some time between 8th and 11th May. As it was designed to enter Venus' atmosphere and land on the planet, large pieces of the 600 kg spacecraft are expected to reach the ground. You can follow it's position on our home page orbit display, and get predictions for passes or monitor the decrease of the orbital height. It could be a spectacular re-entry! |
